It cooks up to a dark, shiny indigo color which makes it the perfect contrast in sushi, salads, and rice pudding. Rice River Farms Purple Sticky Rice is also known as Black Thai Rice. Grown in Thailand, this rice is slightly sweet and has a sticky texture which makes it perfect for sushi rice, puddings, timbaled rice and more! Delicious with shrimp, create a sweet and spicy sushi by adding chiles, smoked salmon and avocado to the cooked purple sticky rice.
Recommended Preparation Instructions:
- 1 cup Purple Sticky Rice
- 2 cups water
- 2 T. butter or olive oil (optional)
Combine 1 cup of rice with 2 cups of water, and butter in saucepan (or rice cooker). Bring to a boil then stir. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 40 minutes or until water is absorbed and rice is tender. Remove from heat; let stand 5-10 minutes, then fluff with a fork and serve.
Yield: Approximately 4 cups of cooked rice.
