ORZO, SOUTHWESTERN MIX
SWMIX-10
Description:
Southwest Mix Orzo is a creative blend of Black Bean, Maize, and Red Chile Orzo. Both colorful and mild-flavored, Southwest Mix Orzo has a chewy texture and subtle flavor. Our orzo is 1/3" long and shaped similar to a grain of rice. The shape and texture of Southwest Mix Orzo lend its use to many different applications. Traditionally, Orzo has been used with Rice to make Pilafs. Orzo, like many kinds of pasta, has become a flexible and versatile ingredient. In Italian, Orzo means "Barley". Since Pasta doesn't contain any Barley, the name is probably in reference to the shape of Orzo. Pasta has been a mainstay ingredient in Italian cooking for centuries. Orzo is just one of the many shapes developed for specific uses.
Ingredient Statement:
Durum Semolina Flour, Corn Flour, Black Bean Powder, Wheat Protein Isolate, Red Chili Pepper Powder, Red Jalapeno Powder, Dehydrated Egg Whites, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Turmeric Spice, Salt, Cumin, Cuttlefish Ink, Safflower. (Contains Wheat, Eggs, Shellfish, Gluten)
Delicious in a Pilaf, Paste E Fagioli or Minestrone soups, cold salads, or by itself with butter. Use Orzo instead of rice with stir fry or to make Pilafs, cold salads, and soups. Toss cooked Orzo with chopped spinach and sliced almonds for a delightful side dish.
Recommended Preparation Instructions:
Add 1 cup of orzo to 2 cups of rapidly boiling water or stock. Return to boil, reduce heat and simmer covered for 10 minutes until tender yet still al dente. Remove from heat and let stand for 3-5 minutes. Add uncooked orzo to soup or stew during the last 12 minutes of cooking.
One cup dry yields 2½ – 3 cups cooked.
