Wasabi, considered the "herb of Japan", comes from the root of an Asian plant and is commonly known as the Japanese version of horseradish. This distinctive root is used to make a pale, green colored condiment with a snappy, sharp, pungent flavor. Hot and powerful for the first few seconds, the intensity dissipates slowly. Wasabi is also a wonderful natural emulsifier, much like mustard. Cherished in Oriental cooking Wasabi is fast becoming a popular ingredient in Western cooking.

Wasabi is well known as the zestful sauce that accompanies Sushi and Sashimi dishes. Mix with warm cream to make a titillating cream sauce or mix with equal amounts of water to make a paste to use any place you would normally use traditional horseradish or mustard. Combine with oil to make an enticing flavoring that you can brush on your fish dishes. When mixing Wasabi powder, wait ten minutes to allow flavors to develop. Recommended Preparation Instructions:

Mix the powder with an equal quantity of tepid water and leave for 10 minutes to develop its flavor. Wasabi accompanies most raw fish dishes.
